TOTENTANZ (Death Dance)

is a late Renaissance image cycle adorning the gables of the covered wooden bridge. The paintings were meant to be a reminder to everyone, rich or poor, pious or profane, that death will make no exception and that it will tighten your heart while they all abandon you…in spite of your wealth and power…even the faithful abbess.
