Alphons Greber

grew up in Switzerland and was trained as a sculptor at the University of Lucerne. There he was commissioned to build a public fountain for a historic monastery.

He subsequently studied photography and film-making at the USC Rossier School of Fine Arts and the USC School of Cinematic Arts, earning an MFA in 1987.

Greber was then asked to build a Film school for Teenagers by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department at Barnsdall Park in Hollywood, where he also taught the Miller Fund Masterclass.

Alphons Greber worked with youth as an artist in residence for the Watts Labor Community Organization.

There, he completed an in-depth photo documentary of South Los Angeles with a grant from the Cultural Affairs Department.

In 2005, Greber began creating spherical objects, laminated with photographs depicting surround views. The work was represented in one-man shows and group exhibits.

A cinematic mural is on permanent display at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

In 2022, he was a recipient of the Gottlieb Foundation artist grant.
